My coworker Silvia and I were just awarded a UREP grant for our proposed study, "Low-skilled Migrant Labor in Qatar: The Workers' Perspectives." Next semester we'll be working with six CMU-Q students to design and administer a survey to low-skilled laborers about their experiences in Qatar, and then conduct in-depth interviews with selected participants.
Yay!

Congrats. It will make a difference, at the very least to all those who work on it!

Some of these allegations don't really make sense, though. It's not news that some of the raided workers are still in the deportation center. Getting them out will cost QR50,000; does the author really think Gokul has access to that kind of money?
I have been helping the Mitery with the knowledge that here in Qatar you can't ask to see a charity's budget or tax statements, or verify exactly where your money goes. This makes it preferable to donate things like foodstuffs than money, of course. But generally speaking, I still think it's better to err on the side of generosity than suspicion.
I'm a teacher at Doha College. I'm very impressed by the research aim. We started this school year with students debating migrant worker's rights with a speaker from the NHRC and we're about to follow it up with a simulation of a special commission labour law reform.
Would you be prepared to link up with some of our students when they are conducted their background research.
